Emily Tribby -
Emily Tribby is a fourth-year EAS undergraduate student with a concentration in Environmental Science. This past summer, she interned at Freeport-McMoRan (a copper and molybdenum mine), working with their Environmental Technology and Life Cycle Analysis Team. She is currently an undergraduate research assistant in Dr. Tang's lab studying REE recovery. Following her December 2023 graduation, she plans to pursue her master's degree in EAS and further her work in remediation. In her free time, she enjoys rock climbing, hiking, and traveling.
Brooke Sciandra -
Brooke Sciandra is a fourth-year undergraduate student double majoring in Biology and EAS with a focus in environmental science. She received the 2022-2023 Rutt Bridges Award and used the funding to carry out an independent research project in Dr. Isaiah Bolden’s lab this summer. During this time, she collected samples from various points along the Chattahoochee River to test them for heavy metal concentrations. In addition to working in Dr. Bolden’s lab, Brooke is a lab TA for Intro to Environmental Science. She plans to graduate in Spring 2024 and hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in environmental science. In her free time, Brooke enjoys anything to do with the outdoors including hiking, camping, sailing, kayaking, and rock climbing.
Mallory Monaghan -
Mallory Monaghan is a fifth-year student studying Earth & Atmospheric Sciences with a focus in meteorology. She is currently a Pathways Intern for the National Weather Service (NWS) Indianapolis where she is training to become a full-time Meteorologist. This past summer, she finished up her three semester Co-Op with Delta Air Lines. While at Delta Air Lines, Mallory developed a passion for aviation meteorology – Terminal Area Forecast (TAF) writing and turbulence forecasting. In her free time, you will often find Mallory singing with her a cappella group (Infinite Harmony), cooking, or painting. Mallory plans to graduate in December of 2023 and start her career as an Operational Meteorologist.
Emily Melvin -
Emily is a fourth-year EAS major with a concentration in meteorology. She is currently interning at the Marine Meteorology Division of the US Naval Research Laboratory working with Dr. Jeff Reid and Dr. John Park. In 2022 she worked for the Brookhaven National Laboratory on the Tracking Aerosol interactions ExpeRiment under Dr. Mike Jensen and Dr. Die Wang. She presented her research at the 2023 American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting Student Conference. At school, Emily works in Dr. Huey's atmospheric chemistry lab. She hopes to pursue a master's degree in meteorology and focus on the marine boundary layer. Emily is also the treasurer of the Dance Company at Georgia Tech, where she teaches classes and choreographs for performances.
Baylee MacBeth -
Baylee MacBeth is a rising third year undergraduate in the Earth & Atmospheric Sciences department. His academic interests include geophysics, geology, and environmental science. He has been working with both Dr. Zhigang Peng and Dr. Andy Newman with Raspberry Shake seismometers through the GTEQ project as the student network manager and by taking research for credit. Through his efforts, he received the 2023-2024 Rutt Bridges award for undergraduate research. Baylee has also been involved in department organizations, being the treasurer for the Society of Exploration Geophysics and the vice president of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon honor society. Some of his favorite hobbies include fashion, thrifting, spending time outside, running, hanging out with friends, going to amusement parks, and planning his next travel destinations. He plans to graduate in the spring of 2024 and continue pursuing his interests.
Marcus Morris -
Marcus Morris is a fourth-year Earth and Atmospheric Sciences undergraduate student focused on environmental science. His interests in the field include biogeochemistry, climate science, atmospheric chemistry, and public policy. He is currently working on a research project with Dr. Taillefert on characterizing greenhouse gas fluxes from coastal salt marshes. He is also a member of the greywater subteam of the Kendeda Living Building Science Vertically Integrated Project. In the previous semester, Marcus worked as a lab teaching assistant for Intro to Environmental Science. After graduation, he hopes to pursue an internship with the Smithsonian Institute before returning to school for his Master's. During his free time, Marcus enjoys reading, baking with his sister, and hanging out with friends.
Kevin Pinder -
Kevin Pinder is a senior studying Earth & Atmospheric Sciences with interests in meteorology. He is currently a National Weather Service Student Volunteer for Peachtree City, Georgia’s Weather Forecasting Office where he receives training in operational meteorology, helps launch weather balloons and performs research on the 2021 flash flooding event in Waverly, Tennessee. His goal is to be a full-time employee for the National Weather Service and provide critical weather warnings to protect people and their property. This past summer, Kevin interned at WSAV in Savannah, Georgia with the Storm Team 3 meteorologists as well as worked with Dr. Handlos to help administer a weather camp to middle and high school students at Georgia Tech. Kevin worked under Dr. Huey during the Fall of 2022 as a Teacher’s Assistant for Physics of the Weather. His other involvements on campus included being a section leader for the drumline in 2021, principal player for the Symphonic Band percussion section, treasurer for SGE and member in StORM club. Kevin’s main hobbies include weather forecasting, watching sports, playing video games, and going to the beach! He plans to return to Georgia Tech as a graduate student next fall.
Aria Creque -
Aria Creque is a fourth year Earth and Atmospheric Sciences major, primarily focusing on environmental science, with minors in Spanish and International Affairs. She is currently interested in researching the effects of eutrophication on coastal acidification off Savannah’s coast with the help of Dr. Bolden and Dr. Taillefert. After graduating this spring, she is excited to begin a career in environmental consulting before returning to school for her Masters. She hopes to continue to use her career to study and mitigate the effects of climate change globally in whatever way she can. In her free time, she enjoys watching musicals, spending time with friends, and traveling to gain new experiences and interact with different cultures.
Ryan McGee -
Ryan is a fourth-year EAS major with a focus in the solid earth and environmental sciences. He currently conducts research with Dr. Karl Lang’s TECHtonics group, utilizing GIS to study landslides in Puerto Rico. He also works part-time for Dr. Lang in the rock-cutting lab as a mineral separation lab technician. He hopes to pursue an internship this upcoming summer to enhance his experience in the consulting industry. During his time at tech, Ryan has held the role of president of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Honors Society and become a general member of the Association of Environmental Engineers and Scientists (AEES), Astronomy Club and Figure Skating Club. During his free time, Ryan enjoys playing social deduction games, eating at Korean Barbecue restaurants, and being a Disney Adult (his favorite princess is Princess Tiana).
Chelsea Bekemeier -
Chelsea Bekemeier is a senior Earth and Atmospheric Sciences major with a concentration in meteorology. Her research interests include the relationship between climate change and extreme weather events, as well as atmospheric chemistry. She is a recipient of the 2022 Rutt Bridges Award and is currently working with Dr. Huey on the detection of trace species in the Upper Troposphere Lower Stratosphere (UTLS) enhanced by convection related to the Asian Summer Monsoon anticyclone. Under Dr. Huey, she participated in the NASA/NCAR Asian Summer Monsoon Chemical and Climate Impact Project (ACCLIP) mission this summer in the Republic of Korea. Chelsea also works on designing high-altitude balloon payloads for atmospheric measurements as a part of the Lightning from the Edge of Space Vertically Integrated Project. She is a member of the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Earth Science Honor Society and the Vice President/Social Media Manager of the Georgia Tech American Meteorological Society Chapter, StORM Club. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, caving, rock climbing, and sport parachuting.
